A new plug-free cable and termination technology for increased performance, cost-efficiency and reliability of multi-conductor cabling (11 NO 79EJ 3MEX)
A Norwegian SME has developed a novel plug-free multi-conductor cable. The cable can be cut at any point and the end serve as a plug at on-site installation or in manufacture of pre-fab cable mats, electrical panels or equipment. A main advantage is single action termination of the cable end in situ only, either by a self-activated termination or by a one-hand operated installer tool or in automated production. Partners are sought for further development and adaption to specific needs.
Innovative Aspects:
At installation on site cable ends can be pulled through cable-size penetration in walls or panels without a plug and connect to equipment by cutting anywhere, quick and reliable. Further advantage comes from a combined conductor and cable restraint termination system which provide very high pull-out resistance. The cable design simplicity offer potential of low cost volume production. Depending on type, there may be no need for stripping of conductor insulation or coating. For all models there is no time spent identifying which conductor terminates where.
Cable and connector repairs can be made simple, fast and reliable in situ and in cramped confined locations without the need of proprietary tools. While useful for most electrical repair personnel, it is considered specifically useful for utility vehicles, military, marine and space operations.
The cable prevents conductors from 'moving around' inside the sheathing. The wires are at all times in their respective locations. This offer a major potential for future copper data cables as a most decisive factor to mitigate crosstalk interference is precision and consistency of all metal and wire locations. The potential include a new, simplified and miniaturized type of "RJ 45" plug.
