Summary:
A South East UK SME has developed a project working with farm waste and and municipal solid waste (MSW) to build anaerobic digestion (AD) plants that operate using unique combinations of waste as feedstocks offering an improved efficiency of energy generation. The techniques applied will remove harmful and regulated products from the waste stream. Seeking industry/research partners expert in farm waste treatment and AD to form joint ventures, co-bid for research funds, license out technology.
Details:
The rationale for this project is embedded in an issue encountered by many UK farmers where there are rules for spreading fertilisers. For this reason, the UK has created the Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ) rule which restricts the amount of waste that can be spread onto farm lands as fertiliser throughout a given year.
Many farmers now have to contend with the complex issue of disposing their farm waste. To help farmers mitigate some of these NVZ related issues, the SME has initiated a project to research the possibility of combining farm and domestic municipal solid waste to generate energy and the production of organic compost.
The SME currently seeks providers of technology solution(s) for the processing of large industrial scale farm waste such as chicken waste (muck, dead chickens, feathers and egg shells) with normal regional organic waste to efficiently generate energy in an AD plant. The SME also seeks to understand if there is a possibility to develop a technology that would enable online measurement to determine best composition and monitoring for the mixture of the farm waste and domestic waste.
Type and Role of Partners Sought:
Type of partner sought: industry and research institutes.
Specific area of activity of partner sought: industrial farm waste treatment, anaerobic digestion.
Task to be carried out: collaborate, form joint ventures, co-bid for research funds, license out technology and expertise.
